Lemon Drop – Cocktail

This is my take on a ‘Lemon Drop’ cocktail. It looks and tastes great and is so easy to make. This recipe is for one glass, it’s about £2 a cocktail, which beats the prices you’ll pay in a bar. Perfect to add something extra to a dinner party or just as a bit of a weekend treat!


40ml      Vodka

40ml      Cointreau

20ml      Lemon Juice

2 tsp      Homemade sugar syrup

               Ice to shake

               Lemon peel garnish

Cocktail shaker

Hawthorne strainer

Small fine sieve

Martini glass


Before you start the cocktail, peel the lemon and cut into ribbons. Roll these into a spiral and weigh down until you need them.

I make sugar syrup by mixing equal parts of sugar and water together. Add 2 teaspoons of sugar to 2 teaspoons of warm water and mix together. While you measure out the other ingredients the sugar should dissolve.

Pour the vodka, Cointreau and lemon juice into the shaker, I use a Boston shaker. Then add the two teaspoons of sugar. Fill up with ice, fit the top on and give it a good shake! You can stop when then shaker goes ice cold. Once it’s ready, double strain by fitting a Hawthorne strainer to the shaker and pouring over the sieve into a Martini glass. Garnish with the lemon peel spiral. Easy!
